Sociolinguistic Survey
The purpose of sociolinguistic survey is to collect information for a particular language group, such as the latest social/ cultural data, linguistic data, language use, language attitudes, etc. in order to identify any needs for language development among the ethno-linguistic community. If there is need for language development, Nepali National Languages Preservation Institute (NNLPI) will discuss with the community how to work together to accomplish the goal.
Orthography Development
For some languages there is no writing system (orthography) available. NNLPI will work together with the ethno-linguistic community to develop a writing system. Professors of the Central Department of Linguistics, Tribhuvan University also serve as consultants in the process and provide advice or suggestions from a linguistic perspective to the ethno-linguistic community in decisions.
Trilingual Glossary Development
NNLPI works on trilingual glossaries in partnership with the Central Department of Linguistics of Tribhuvan University, and the local ethno-linguistic communities.
Mother Tongue Based Bilingual Adult Literacy Program
NNLPI offers bilingual adult literacy programs for various language groups upon their request. This includes the production of teaching and reading materials for the literacy classes with local assistance, as well as training for the facilitators/teachers and onsite supervisors of the literacy classes.
Translation of Resource Materials
In order to provide useful resource materials for different language groups, NNLPI invites experts to translate some good and useful materials as resources for language development work.
