The goal of this Rajbanshi MTB-MLE programme is to help students coming from non-Nepali speaking communities to successfully integrate into the mainstream Nepali medium education system. To achieve this goal, material production and teacher training play an important role to make the programme effective.

Given that there is no existing government curriculum for kindergarten or textbook for mother tongue subject, majority of the teaching and learning materials produced are for the kindergarten year as well as Rajbanshi as a language subject from KG to Grade 5. The project team also developed Grade 1 transitional materials and teaching aids that are based on local contexts and promote child-centered and interactive learning in class. Government textbooks are used for all subjects from Grade 2 to Grade 5 with support of supplementary materials developed by the project team to scaffold students' learning.

The programme also conducted pre-service and regular in-service teacher trainings throughout the six-year programme period. Teachers are taught the purposes and principles behind the programme design and child-centred teaching methodologies. The just-in-time training sessions before each semester also prepared teachers for the upcoming school term's contents. As teachers became more familiar with the activities and contents over time, increased proportion of the teacher training time was spent in teaching practice, peer feedback and discussions to adjust teaching methods according to students' needs.

Over the past six years, the MLE project team members also had numerous opportunities to develop their capacity through participation in in-country and overseas workshops, networking with other MLE practitioners and presenting in an MLE conference.
